Nestled in the heart of Puglia’s serene countryside, this charming rural home is set amidst a breathtaking 13,000-square-meter olive grove. The original structure, a modest 40-square-meter residence (lamia), features a cozy living area, a bedroom, and a bathroom. Our client’s vision is to transform this traditional home into a spacious, contemporary retreat while honoring its authentic charm.

The transformation

The renovation and expansion project focuses on seamlessly blending the old with the new. The existing space will be completely renovated to create a welcoming open-plan living area, featuring a large, fully equipped kitchen perfect for culinary gatherings. A cozy seating area with a fireplace will provide warmth and comfort, complemented by a dedicated space for relaxed TV viewing.

Airy New Additions
The extension will introduce a luxurious master bedroom complete with an en-suite master bathroom, designed to offer a private sanctuary with modern amenities. A guest bedroom with an adjoining shared bathroom will also be added, and a third bedroom on the back of the house can serve as another comfortable guest suite or a flexible space that can function as an office or practice room.

For added privacy and comfort, the guest bedroom will boast its own terrace, creating an intimate outdoor retreat. The room itself will be equipped with a coffee-making corner and small kitchenette, offering guests the convenience of enjoying a morning brew in the tranquility of their own space.

Outdoor Enhancements
The exterior of the home will be equally inviting, with the addition of a permanent staircase leading to the rooftop. This feature will provide easy access to stunning panoramic views of the sprawling olive grove and the picturesque Puglian landscape, perfect for sunset gatherings or quiet reflection.

This project embodies the essence of Puglia’s rustic beauty, thoughtfully reimagined to meet contemporary living standards. It is a testament to how traditional architecture can be preserved and enhanced, creating a timeless retreat that harmonizes with its natural surroundings.

Kitchen and Living Area Layout
The open-plan kitchen and living area is designed to be the heart of the home, combining functionality with inviting aesthetics. The kitchen features a spacious island with seating for two, perfect for casual dining or socializing while cooking. It is equipped with modern appliances, ample countertop space, and smart storage solutions, making it both practical and stylish.

Adjacent to the kitchen is a large dining area with a wooden table that comfortably seats six, ideal for family meals and entertaining guests. The living space is arranged around a cozy fireplace, creating a warm focal point. It includes a comfortable sofa, armchairs, and a stylish coffee table, complemented by a reading nook for quiet moments. Thoughtfully positioned windows and doors ensure abundant natural light, enhancing the airy, open feel of the space.

Guest Wing Layout
The guest wing is thoughtfully designed to provide privacy, comfort, and versatility. The spacious guest bedroom is centered around a large bed, complemented by bedside tables and ample built-in wardrobe space.The guest suite also opens onto a private terrace, furnished with outdoor seating, providing a serene spot for enjoying the Puglian landscape.

Adjacent to the bedroom(s) is a compact bathroom, equipped with modern amenities including a walk-in shower, stylish vanity and toilet.

Beyond the guest bedroom and bathroom, a flexible living area serves as a multi-functional space that can be used as a 3rd bedroom, an office, a practice room, or additional lounge area.
