A refreshed Living Room with Just a Few Small Adjustments
The client approached us after seeing some of our previous work. She lives in a small city apartment but has a strong preference for a rustic, country-style interior. She is drawn to sturdy furniture made from natural materials and fabrics, as well as accessories that complement a countryside aesthetic. Her living room feels too cluttered and she’s unsure how to arrange it effectively. The client wants to stay true to her style preferences but is open to our suggestions to freshen it up. Additionally, she expressed the desire to purchase a new sofa and add a rug to her space. Her leather chair is a keeper, but she is open to having it reupholstered. She also has several items with sentimental value that must remain part of her interior.
My approach
Initial Visit and Analysis of the Current Situation
The living room is richly furnished with a diversity of furniture pieces and accessories, mainly in a classic country style. Tasteful accessories, including floral arrangements, vases, sculptures, table lamps, a mirror, and paintings, all on itself contributing to a warm and atmospheric ambiance.
However, the space feels busy and cluttered due to the presence of all the furniture and the abundance of miscellaneous decorative elements. The buffet cabinet and wooden coffee table dominate the seating area, causing the living room to lose some of its charm and sense of spaciousness. While the individual pieces are beautiful and stylish, they compete for attention, which diminishes their impact. There is a need to reconsider the layout to better highlight the strengths of both the furniture and the room as a whole.
We suggested a more balanced composition, reducing unnecessary elements, and using decorations more selectively, the classic country style can be preserved while giving the living room a more spacious, airy, and inviting character.
Key Adjustments in the New Design
In this new design, several important adjustments have been made to enhance the space.
The focus has been on creating a balanced layout with ample walking space and a harmonious connection between the furniture pieces.
The use of natural materials and soft colors helps preserve the country-style atmosphere while creating a calm, inviting ambiance where comfort and aesthetics go hand in hand.
Coffee Table Replacement
In the updated design, we have replaced the wooden coffee table with an elegant, oval glass coffee table. This choice creates a lighter, more refined look in the seating area. The glass top enhances the sense of space, making the room appear larger and airier. The oval shape softens the lines within the room and promotes a smooth flow around the seating area, further enhancing the open and harmonious atmosphere.
Sofa Replacement
The sofa, which was previously positioned against the wall, has been replaced with two comfortable, standalone armchairs. These chairs are strategically placed facing the window, allowing for optimal enjoyment of natural light and the view. This arrangement not only creates an open and airy layout but also fosters a cozy, intimate seating area.
Addition of a Rug
To visually anchor the seating area and add extra warmth, a stylish rug has been introduced. This rug provides a beautiful foundation that ties together the various elements of the seating area, contributing to a cozy and inviting ambiance.Â
Dining Table Replacement
The rectangular dining table has been replaced with a round table in this design. This change promotes a smoother flow within the space and offers a softer, more harmonious aesthetic. The round shape encourages convivial dining experiences, enhances social interaction, and saves space, making the area feel more open and inviting.
Pendant Light Replacement
The robust metal pendant light with a hammered finish and elongated linen shade has been replaced with a more subtle, contemporary alabaster pendant light. This refined fixture adds a light, airy touch to the dining area and provides soft, evenly distributed lighting. The organic shapes of the alabaster globes create an elegant, modern accent that complements the round dining table and enhances the serene, harmonious atmosphere of the space.
Finding the right pieces
Since the client expressed difficulty in finding the recommended armchairs and lighting, we were pleased to offer her a selection of suggestions to assist in her search.
